In this text, the encounter of two people and the meeting of their eyes has given us many descriptions related to this subject. It is reinforced with words such as “Regards” and “n'avait jamais vu”.
In this part, the reader sees our main character, Julien, through the eyes of Madame de Renal for the first time. He is very impressed by her. He is literally fascinated by Julie's youth and appearance. Meanwhile, he says the following. But at the same time, Madame Renal affects Julien very much. He can't believe that such a perfect and noble woman is talking to him. He does not see her as his equal because of his social status. These descriptions show us that Madame Renal has moved on from the mother model.
The definition of Madame Renal as "forbidden" reveals what love can do. But at the same time, Madame Renal's social status and the fact that she is married make it forbidden.
This interaction between the two characters actually initiates a change. The “mother” relationship is replaced by romantic feelings.
